Alexender Kipnis prepared Kenneth Lane as did Frieda Hempel for his solo début at Carnegie Hall. Kipnis was one of the greatest basses in history performing the role of Boris and all the Wagnerian bass Roles and his lieder recitals are considered among the best ever as are his recordings for the Hugo Wolf Society both memorable and historic.
